We’ll be reviewing the Purple Hybrid Premier, and Purple Hybrid Premier beds. These beds have the company’s Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid along with springy layers made of pocketed coils. I’ll admit, the specs certainly sound interesting, but are these beds comfortable? On Purple Mattress Reviews
These mattresses were reviewed in detail by me. I assessed how they felt, their construction, and whether they are supportive of certain types of sleepers.

Is a Purple Hybrid a good mattress?
Purple was established in 2015 and has grown to be one of the most well-known bedding brands. This is due to its cheeky advertising and innovative products. It offers three hybrid mattresses, the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 (Purple Hybrid Premier 3), and the Purple Hybrid Premier 4 (Purple Hybrid Premier 4). The only difference between these beds is how much of Purple’s special grid layer is included in each. The Premier 3 and Premier 4 use 2 inches each, while the Premier 3 and Premier 3 each use 3 inches. 4 inches
Although the pressure relief offered by these beds is different, they feel almost identical. Below is a list of who each model may be best suited for.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
For back sleepers who prefer a firmer feeling, the Purple Hybrid is the best choice. Those who need a little more pressure relief may choose the Purple Premier.
The Purple Premier 4 is a great option for side sleepers, as it provides a lot of cushioning around pressure points.
Stomach sleepers are likely to enjoy the supportive feeling that the original Purple Hybrid offers.
Hot sleepers should appreciate how cooling each of these mattresses are.
These beds are great for couples who want to sleep together. On Purple Mattress Reviews
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Couples might not like the Purple mattresses.
They are so lively, it is likely that you will feel your partner turning and tossing at night.
One of our best memory foam mattresses might be a better fit if you’re easily disturbed at night. On Purple Mattress Reviews
How Firm is the Purple Hybrid Mattresses
Let’s now get into the actual feeling of these bed-in a-box hybrids. Below, I’ll describe what it was like to sleep in each of the Purple Hybrid hybrid models. Feelings are subjective and will vary depending on your body type and preferred sleeping position. For example, I’m 5’9″, approximately 125 lbs., and prefer sleeping on my side.
As you can see in the graphic below, I actually thought all three mattresses had pretty distinct feels, so I’ll section them off below so you can get my full thoughts on each one.
Purple Hybrids and the mattress firmness.
Purple Hybrid: This mattress was quite firm so I gave it a 7 on the mattress firmness scale. It’s obvious that this mattress is more supportive than the industry-standard 6.5 for mediumfirmness. This mattress is best for stomach and back sleepers, since the polymer layer of the polymer is thin enough that it can support a straight spine from hips to shoulders.
Purple Hybrid should be enjoyed by back-sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3: I gave this bed a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, and felt it had a true medium-firm feel. I’d especially recommend this bed to combination sleepers who move between multiple positions in the night and those suffering from lower back pain or looking for a mattress for sciatica . It provided pressure relief and support in a way that could be comfortable in all sleeping positions.
The Purple Hybrid Premier 3 could feel comfortable to combination sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4: I scored this bed as a 6 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. The soft mattress was very supportive and cradled all my pressure points. But, I still didn’t feel “stuck-in” the bed. This mattress would be a good choice for side or combination sleepers. These people will appreciate the pressure-relieving feeling of this mattress.
Side sleepers will love the Purple Hybrid Premier 4.
Before we end this section, let me say that the Purple Hybrids all had a lively, responsive feeling. These beds felt more like “on top” than “in”, and it was easy to switch positions during the night. In fact, I’d say these are some of the best mattresses for combination sleepers on the market. Are Purple Hybrids good for light sleepers (under 130 lb)
Light Back Sleepers: The Hybrid Premier 3 should be suitable for light-weight back sleepers. It will fill in the lumbar region for good pressure relief. For these sleepers, any one of the hybrids may also be suitable.
Light Side Sleepers ” The Premier 4 is the right choice for these sleepers. Side sleepers will appreciate the pressure relief it provides.
Light Stomach Sleepers – I’d recommend these folks stick to the original Purple Hybrid, which should keep their hips lifted up in line with their shoulders. On Purple Mattress Reviews
Are Purple Hybrids good mattresses for average weight sleepers (130-250 lb)
Average Weight Back sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is the perfect choice because it combines pressure relief with support. If you need to move around at night, it’s a good option.
Side sleepers with average weights – The Premier 4 mattress is the best for them. Its thick, top layer of hyper elastic polymer gives you plenty of pressure relief at your hips and shoulders.
Average Weight Stomach Sleepers — The original Purple Hybrid should offer enough support to keep these people’s spines in a straight line. On Purple Mattress Reviews
Are the Purple Hybrids Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 lb)?
Heavy Back Sleepers: I recommend that these sleepers stick with the Premier 3. It is thick enough for durability, but not too soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers ” The Premier 4 is an excellent choice for heavy side sleepers. The Premier 4’s thick grid layer allows for plenty of sinkage and the soft feel should make it comfortable for side sleepers.
Heavy Stomach sleepers – These beds are not recommended for heavy stomach sleepers. They require a firmer bed to provide the best support. One of our best mattresses for heavy people could be a better fit. On Purple Mattress Reviews
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief
Pressure relief is closely linked to pain relief. This is the measure of how well a bed can relieve tension at the hips, shoulders, and lower back. To test for this, I like to use a pressure map.
It sounds complicated but it’s really quite easy. All I have to do is roll the gadget out and get on board. The map does the rest. The gadget tracks the force that my body exerts on the map as I move about the bed and creates a colored “map of pressure”. Blue zones indicate areas of low pressure, and red areas of high.
The Purple Hybrids offer pressure relief.
Back Pain Based on these pressure map results, the original Purple Hybrid is the best fit for sleepers with back pain. The map is blue across the board, but doesn’t gap around the lower back the way the Premier 3 and 4 maps do. This indicates that the original Hybrid is maintaining my weight evenly supported. This is important in order to avoid back pain.
Shoulder Pain According to these results, these beds are excellent choices for people suffering from shoulder pain. These beds should be able to cushion the shoulders and relieve pressure.
Hip Pain the Premier 4 is the winner for hip pain sufferers. Its pressure map is nearly completely blue, which means that sensitive hip joints will be cradled throughout night. On Purple Mattress Reviews
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performances For Couples
Couples love beds that can isolate motion transfer, allow for sex while also being responsive enough for sex. Read on below to see how the Purple Hybrids stack up in those areas.
Motion transfer is when there is motion between the two sides of a bed. This is an important aspect for everyone, but it’s especially important for couples and people who share a bed with their child or furry friend.
To illustrate motion transfer I dropped a 10lb steel ball from heights 4-8, 8 and 12 inches. The disturbance it created was measured.
The motion transfer results of Purple Hybrids are impressive.
Given the bounce of these mattresses, it is not surprising to find that they do not offer motion isolation. I think this means you might feel movement across the three mattresses. On Purple Mattress Reviews
The best mattress to use for sex has enough bounce and motion control to be easy to move on.
The Purple Hybrids seem a bit too soft to be shared if you aren’t a light sleeper.
However, if you’re not disturbed at night they can be good options for sex due to their lift-and mobility.
The Purple Hybrids all have incredible cooling properties.
Any of these beds is suitable for hot sleepers. They are also among the most comfortable and cooling you can buy.
This is good news for couples who tend to heat up much faster than single sleepers. On Purple Mattress Reviews
Edge support refers to your ability to lie on one side or the other of your bed while still feeling supported. Edge support can make your mattress seem larger, as you can spread across its entire surface.
I thought all three Purple mattresses had good edge support. I could feel the Purple grid layer compress under my weight, but the foam and coils below stayed firm and supportive.
Personally, I thought the Purple Premier 3 had the best edge support of the bunch. On Purple Mattress Reviews
What is the Purple Hybrid?
Let’s now get to the bottom of what these beds are made from! I’m sure you want to find out more about Purple Grid. This is the stretchy purple top layer that gives Purple mattresses their unique feel.
Below I’ll detail the grid as well as all of the mattress layers. Recall that all Purple Hybrids can be assembled the same way. The only difference between the Purple Grids used in each bed is the number of inches.
Cover All these mattresses feature a breathable and stretchy polyester blend mattress cover.
Comfort Layer Directly below the cover is where you’ll encounter the hyper-elastic polymer smart comfort grid. This grid is very cooling and supportive. Although it is hard to describe how the polymer material feels, I liken it as a water bed. It supports and cradles you body as you move. The Hybrid Premier 3 Purple uses 3 Inches of Grid and the Hybrid Premier 4 4 Inches. The mattress will feel less pressure-relieving, the larger the grid.
The Purple Grid.
Next, you will find a layer with poly foam. This layer of transition foam helps to ease the sleeper through the soft top grid into the more robust pocketed coil system.
Support Layer: The bulk of Hybrid Premier or Hybrid Premier mattresses consists of a section made of pocketed coils. These springs are extremely bouncy, so help to further lift the sleeper up and out of the structure. In general, you’ll likely feel more “on top” of these beds as the polymer grid and pocketed coils produce a ton of buoyancy.
Let’s take a look at some of the materials used to make the Purple Hybrid layers. On Purple Mattress Reviews
Purple Hybrids Unboxing And Off-Gassing
The Purple Hybrids are all bed-in-a-box mattresses, but they actually come in bags instead of boxes! Purple includes complimentary white glove delivery when you order the Hybrid Premier models. Although the original Purple Hybrid is a little easier to lift than the Premier models, I would recommend having a friend help you unbag it. They don’t have an overpowering off-gassing odor, which is a plus for these mattresses. Any scent should vanish within a few hours.
The Final Thoughts on Purple Hybrid Mattresses. We’re now at the end. Now it’s time to make a decision about whether one of these mattresses is the right choice for you. Although I cannot make that decision for your, I can offer some suggestions to help you.
Purple Hybrid mattress are my favorite.
The Purple Hybrids are extremely cooling. They don’t trap body heat and should therefore be comfortable for most hot sleepers. I like the responsiveness of Purple Hybrid beds. These beds will be easy to adjust for combination sleepers.
The Purple Grid is a great feeling. The Purple Grid is great for helping you maintain a healthy spine alignment. It also feels amazing in relieving pressure. It is especially effective when you opt for one of the thicker models. If you are willing to experiment with a more unique feel, I recommend the Purple. On Purple Mattress Reviews
My Purple Hybrid mattress complaints
Purple mattresses do not have the best motion isolation. Even though this isn’t an issue, if you are sensitive to motion, a traditional memory mattress might be a better choice.
I also wanted to mention that some customers complained about the Purple mattress’s tendency to sag and form indentations. Purple Hybrids have innerspring coil layers that make them more durable. If this is a problem, heavy people might choose to switch to a different model. You should place any Purple bed on a sturdy platform. On Purple Mattress Reviews

Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
The Leesa Hybrid, like the Purple Hybrids has foam layers and pocketed coils to provide pressure relief and support.

In general, I’d recommend the Leesa Hybrid for back sleepers and couples.
