We will be reviewing the Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses. These beds feature the Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid as well as layers of springy pockets and coils. Although the specifications sound interesting, I have to admit that these beds are not comfortable. Purple Mattress Fiberglass
To find out, these mattresses received a thorough review. I evaluated how they were constructed, how they feel and how they support specific sleepers.

Are Purple Hybrids Good for You?
Purple was founded in 2015. It has become one of the most loved bedding brands thanks to its quirky advertisements and innovative products. It currently sells three kinds of hybrid mattresses: Purple Hybrid Premier 3, Purple Hybrid Premier 3 & Purple Hybrid Premier 4 Only the difference between these mattresses is the amount of Purple’s special grid-layer included in each. The Premier 3 Hybrid has 2 inches, the Premier 3 3 inches and the Premier 4 4 inches. 4 inches
Although they offer different pressure relief, the beds feel fairly similar. Take a look below to learn a little more about who each model might work best for.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
The original Purple Hybrid is recommended for back sleepers who want a firmer feel, while the Purple Premier provides a bit more pressure relief.
Side sleepers will love the Purple Premier 4 because it provides excellent cushioning for pressure points.
People who sleep on their stomachs will appreciate the comforting feel of the original Purple Hybrid.
This mattress is cooling and should be loved by hot sleepers.
Combination sleepers should enjoy the bouncy feel of these beds! Purple Mattress Fiberglass
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses might not be for couples.
Their buoyancy makes it easy to imagine your partner tossing about at night.
You might find a better choice if you are easily disturbed at nights. Purple Mattress Fiberglass
How Firm are Purple Hybrid mattresses?
Let’s now get into the actual feeling of these bed-in a-box hybrids. Below I will describe how it felt to sleep on each of the Purple Hybrid models. It is important to remember that feeling can be subjective and depend on your body type. Referring to your reference, I am 5’9″, 125 lbs and prefer to sleep on the side.
As you can see, all three of my mattresses felt very different to me.
Purple Hybrids are ranked on the mattress firmness scale.
Purple Hybrid. I found the Purple Hybrid mattress to be very firm and gave it a 7. It’s obvious that this mattress is more supportive than the industry-standard 6.5 for mediumfirmness. This mattress is best for stomach and back sleepers, since the polymer layer of the polymer is thin enough that it can support a straight spine from hips to shoulders.
Back sleepers should enjoy the feel of the Purple Hybrid.
Purple Hybrid Premier3 : I gave the bed a 6.5 rating on the firmness scale. It had a medium-firm feel. This mattress is ideal for combination sleepers. It was able to provide pressure relief as well as support so that you can feel at ease in any of your sleeping positions.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 may feel good for combination sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier4: This bed scored a 6/10 on the mattress firmness scale. This soft mattress truly supported my pressure points, and gave me a great amount of sinkage. But, I still didn’t feel “stuck-in” the bed. This mattress would be a good choice for side or combination sleepers. I believe these people will love the pressure-relieving comfort of this mattress.
Side sleepers may like the Purple Hybrid Premier 4
Before we close this section, I’d like to point out that all three Purple Hybrids have a buoyant, responsive feel. These beds made me feel more “on top” of them than “in” them. It was also easy to move around at night. These are, in fact, some of the most comfortable mattresses available for combination sleepers. Purple Mattress Fiberglass
Are Purple Hybrids Good Mattresses For Light Sleepers (Under 130 Pounds)?
Light Back Sleepers — The Hybrid Premier 3 I think is a great choice for light back-sleepers. It fills in their lumbar regions to provide good pressure relief. And it is supportive enough for those with lighter bodies. These sleepers could also benefit from any of the hybrids.
Light Side Sleepers ” The Premier 4 is the right choice for these sleepers. Side sleepers will love the fact that it provides pressure relief.
Light Stomach Sleepers – I’d recommend these folks stick to the original Purple Hybrid, which should keep their hips lifted up in line with their shoulders. Purple Mattress Fiberglass
Are Purple Hybrids Good For Average Weight Sleepers (130-250lb)?
Average Weight Back Sleepers: The Hybrid Premier 3 is great for those who are average weight. It combines pressure relief and support. If you need to move around at night, it’s a good option.
Side sleepers of average weight – The Premier 4 is the best choice for these sleepers. Its thick top layer of hyper-elastic polymer provides plenty of room to sink in for pressure relief at the shoulders and hips.
Average Weight Stomach sleepers – The original Purple Hybrid should support these people’s spines. Purple Mattress Fiberglass
Are Purple Hybrids suitable for heavy sleepers (over 250lb).
Heavy Back Sleepers – I’d recommend these sleepers stick to the Premier 3, which is thick enough to be durable, but won’t feel overly soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers ” The Premier 4 is an excellent choice for heavy side sleepers. Its thick grid layers provide plenty of room for sinkage while its soft feel should be very comfortable.
Heavy Stomach / Back Sleepers – I don’t recommend these mattresses to anyone with a heavy stomach. These people need to have optimal support and a firmer mattress. This mattress is our top choice for heavy sleepers. Purple Mattress Fiberglass
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief
Pressure relief is closely related. This is how well a particular bed can reduce tension at the hips, shoulders, lower back, and hips. To test for this, I like to use a pressure map.
Although it sounds complicated, it is actually very simple. I just roll the gizmo and then hop on the map. The gadget records the force of my body on the map and gives me a colored “map”. The blue areas denote low pressure while the red areas are high.
The Purple Hybrids provide pressure relief.
Back Pain Based on these results, the original Purple Hybrid is the best choice for people with back pain. The map is blue across the board, but doesn’t gap around the lower back the way the Premier 3 and 4 maps do. This shows me that the original Hybrid is keeping me evenly supported in my weight which is crucial for avoiding back discomfort.
Shoulder Pain Based upon these results, all three beds are great choices for those suffering from shoulder pain. To relieve pressure, they should cushion the shoulder area.
Hip Pain The Premier 4 is the clear winner for folks with hip pain. Its pressure map appears almost entirely blue, which indicates that it will be used to cradle sensitive hip joints throughout the night. Purple Mattress Fiberglass
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performance for Couples
Couples prefer beds that are quiet, responsive enough to sex and offer good edge support. Continue reading to learn how Purple Hybrids stack-up in those areas.
Motion transfer is the amount of movement detectable from one side of the bed to the other. This is a crucial factor for any sleeper, but particularly for those who share a mattress with a child or furry pet friend.
To demonstrate motion transfer, I dropped an 10 lb steel ball, from three heights: 4 inches, 8 inch, and 12 inches. I measured the disturbance it caused. The bigger the lines, then, the more severe the disturbance.
Motion transfer results from Purple Hybrids.
These mattresses are so bouncy that I am not surprised they offer little motion isolation. What this tells me is that you’re likely to feel movement across all three mattresses, which means they may not be the best fit for couples, especially if one partner is easily disturbed at night. Purple Mattress Fiberglass
A good mattress for sex should have enough bounce and motion isolation to be comfortable to move about on.
The Purple Hybrids seem a bit too soft to be shared if you aren’t a light sleeper.
But if you’re not easily disturbed at night, they could be nice options for sex thanks to their lift and mobility.
All Purple Hybrids have a remarkable cooling effect.
These beds should make hot sleepers happy. I would also say that they are some of the most cooling mattresses available.
This is great news to couples who overheat more quickly than those who sleep alone. Purple Mattress Fiberglass
Edge support is a measure of whether or not you’ll be able to sleep all the way on the side of your bed and still feel supported. Your mattress will feel bigger if you have great edge support. You can spread your weight over the entire surface of your mattress.
All three Purple mattresses provided good edge support. I could feel the Purple grid layer begin to compress under my weight but the foam and coils below were firm and supportive.
Personally, I thought that the Purple Premier 3 had some of the best edge support. Purple Mattress Fiberglass
What is the Purple Hybrid?
Let’s next look at what these beds are made out of. I know most people want to know more information about the Purple Grid layer. This is the stretchy purple top layer that gives Purple mattresses their unique feel.
Below is a detailed description of the grid and all other layers of the mattress. It is important to remember that all Purple Hybrids have the exact same construction. The only difference is the amount of Purple Grid each bed uses.
All mattresses have a cover made of a stretchy, breathable polyester blend.
Comfort Layer Directly below the cover is where you’ll encounter the hyper-elastic polymer smart comfort grid. This grid is bouncy, supportive, and incredibly cooling. It is difficult to describe how this polymer material feels. However, I would compare it to a waterbed because it wraps around your body as you move. The Hybrid Premier 3 Purple uses 3 Inches of Grid and the Hybrid Premier 4 4 Inches. The mattress will feel less pressure-relieving, the larger the grid.
A look at the Purple Grid.
Next, you will find a layer with poly foam. The transition foam acts to allow the sleeper to move down through the soft grid and onto the firmer pocketed coil below.
Support Layer A section of pocketed coils makes up the bulk of the Hybrid Premier and Hybrid Premier mattresses. These springs are extremely bouncy, so help to further lift the sleeper up and out of the structure. In general, you’ll likely feel more “on top” of these beds as the polymer grid and pocketed coils produce a ton of buoyancy.

Purple Hybrids Unboxing, Off-Gassing
Purple Hybrids are all-bed-in-a box mattresses. However, they come in bags rather than boxes. Purple includes complimentary white glove delivery when you order the Hybrid Premier models. While the original Purple Hybrid is not as difficult to lift, it’s still worth having someone nearby to help you bag it. This mattress is not as strong in off-gassing as other bed-ina-box mattresses. Any scent should fade within a few days.
The Final Thoughts on Purple Hybrid Mattresses. We’re now at the end. After reviewing every detail, it’s time now to make the decision about which mattress is best for you. Although I cannot make that decision for your, I can offer some suggestions to help you.
Purple Hybrid is one of my favorite mattresses
I really love how cooling all of the Purple Hybrids are. They don’t trap too much heat, so most people who are hot should feel comfortable on them. I also love how responsive the Purple Hybrid model are. These beds can be used by both single and double sleepers.
Finally, the Purple Grid feels great. It’s great for helping with your spine alignment. However, it is also extremely pressure relieving. You will find it to be extremely comfortable, especially if you go for the thicker models. If you’re willing to test out a more unique feel I think the Purple might be a great fit for you. My Purple Hybrid mattress complaints
Purple mattresses may not offer the best motion isolation. Although this isn’t a major issue, it can make your night more difficult.
However, I would like to point out that some customers were unhappy with the original Purple mattress’s tendency of sagging or forming indentations. The Purple Hybrids are more durable due to the innerspring coil layers. However, heavier people might prefer a different mattress. Place any Purple bed you purchase on a solid platform. Purple Hybrid Vs.
Let’s take an in-depth look at Purple Hybrid Premier mattress and Purple Hybrid Premier mattress.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
The Leesa Hybrid is similar to the Purple Hybrids and combines foam layers with pocketed coils for support and pressure relief.
It has a more traditional feel than the Purple beds. This could be a good option for people who don’t like Purple’s unique feel.
In general, I’d recommend the Leesa Hybrid for back sleepers and couples.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
The Casper is different from the Purples. It has zoned support. This means it is firmer in the hips but softer at the shoulders. This provides optimal lumbar support.
Purples are more lively than the Casper Hybrids which might appeal to combination sleepers.
The Purple 3 or Purple 4 can be a bit more effective than the Casper Hybrid. Purple Mattress Fiberglass
Purple Hybrids vs Original Purple
The Original Purple mattress’s support layers are made of high-density Poly foam, and not pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is firm, supportive, and bouncy. This is a great feeling for combination sleepers.
The Original Purple mattress, like the Purple Hybrids is extremely cooling. It could also be a good choice for people who sleep hot at night.
The Original Purple is cheaper than either the Purple Hybrid Premier, or Purple Hybrid Premier.
