We’ll be reviewing the Purple Hybrid Premier, and Purple Hybrid Premier beds. These beds feature the Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid as well as layers of springy pockets and coils. Although the specifications sound interesting, I have to admit that these beds are not comfortable. Purple Mattress Promotion
To find out, I gave these mattresses a thorough review, assessing how they’re built, how they feel, and how well they support certain sleepers.

Is a Purple Hybrid a Good Mattress for You?
Purple was founded 2015 and has been a household name ever since. Its innovative products and cheeky advertisements have helped make Purple a popular brand in the bedding market. It sells three different hybrid mattresses, the Purple Hybrid, the Purple Hybrid Premier 3, and Purple Hybrid Premier 4. The only thing that differs between these beds are the amounts of Purple’s unique grid layer. The Premier 3 and Premier 4 use 2 inches each, while the Premier 3 and Premier 3 each use 3 inches. 4 inches
These beds provide different levels of pressure relief but feel very similar. Take a look below to learn a little more about who each model might work best for.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
The original Purple Hybrid is recommended for back sleepers who want a firmer feel, while the Purple Premier provides a bit more pressure relief.
Side sleepers will love the Purple Premier 4 because it provides excellent cushioning for pressure points.
Stomach sleepers will likely enjoy the supportive feel of the original Purple Hybrid.
Hot sleepers should appreciate how cooling each of these mattresses are.
Combination sleepers will love the bounce of these beds! Purple Mattress Promotion
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Couples might not like the Purple mattresses.
Since they’re so bouncy, you’re likely to feel a partner tossing and turning at night.
One of our top memory foam mattresses might be a better option if you have trouble falling asleep at night. Purple Mattress Promotion
How Firm is the Purple Hybrid Mattresses
Let’s now get into the actual feeling of these bed-in a-box hybrids. Below I will describe how it felt to sleep on each of the Purple Hybrid models. It is important to remember that feeling can be subjective and depend on your body type. Referring to your reference, I am 5’9″, 125 lbs and prefer to sleep on the side.
As you can see, all three of my mattresses felt very different to me.
Purple Hybrids and the mattress firmness.
Purple Hybrid. This mattress is quite firm. This mattress has a firmer feel than the industry norm of 6.5 for medium-firmness. As the polymer layer on this mattress is thin enough to support a smooth spine, I believe stomach and back sleeping would be most benefited.
Purple Hybrid should be used by back sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3: I gave this bed a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, and felt it had a true medium-firm feel. I’d especially recommend this bed to combination sleepers who move between multiple positions in the night and those suffering from lower back pain or looking for a mattress for sciatica . It struck a really nice balance between pressure relief and support that I think could feel comfortable in most sleeping positions.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 could feel great for couples who are looking to sleep together.
Purple Hybrid Premier4: This bed scored a 6/10 on the mattress firmness scale. This soft mattress supported my pressure points well and provided a good amount of sinkage. I did not feel “stuck-in”, however. This mattress would suit side sleepers or side combo sleepers. I believe these people will love the pressure-relieving comfort of this mattress.
Side sleepers will like the Purple Hybrid Premier 4
Before I wrap up this section, I wanted to mention that all three Purple Hybrids had a responsive, bouncy feel. These beds feel much more comfortable than they are “in” and I found it easy to adjust my position at night. These are my top picks for combination sleepers. Purple Mattress Promotion
Are Purple Hybrids Good For Light Sleepers (Under 130 Lb)?
Light Back Sleepers – I think the Hybrid Premier 3 is a great fit for lightweight back sleepers, it should really fill in their lumbar regions for some nice pressure relief, and is plenty supportive for lighter folks. These sleepers could also benefit from any of the hybrids.
The Premier 4 is a great option for light side sleepers. Side sleepers will find it offers excellent pressure relief.
Light Stomach Sleepers: I recommend that these people stick with the original Purple Hybrid. This should ensure their hips are aligned with their shoulders. Purple Mattress Promotion
Are Purple Hybrids Good for Average Weight Sleepers (130 -250 lb).
Average Weight Back Sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is a nice fit for these sleepers, since it combines the pressure relief and support. It is ideal for people who move between sleeping positions at night.
Side sleepers who are average in weight – the Premier 4 is the best option for these sleepers. The thick layer of hyperelastic polymer on the top allows for plenty of pressure relief at the shoulders, hips, and hips.
Average Weight Stomach sleepers – The original Purple Hybrid should support these people’s spines. Purple Mattress Promotion
Are Purple Hybrids the Best Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250lb).
Heavy Back Sleepers — I would suggest these sleepers stick to Premier 3, which is thick and durable but not overly soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers ” The Premier 4 is an excellent choice for heavy side sleepers. Its thick grid layers provide plenty of room for sinkage while its soft feel should be very comfortable.
Heavy Stomach / Back Sleepers – I don’t recommend these mattresses to anyone with a heavy stomach. These people need to have optimal support and a firmer mattress. A better choice for heavy people is one of our top mattresses. Purple Mattress Promotion
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief
Pressure relief is closely related to pain relief. It is an indicator of how well a mattress can ease tension at the shoulders and hips. I use a pressure map to check for this.
Though it sounds complicated, it’s actually quite simple: I roll this gizmo out, hop aboard, and let the map do the rest! The gadget tracks the force that my body exerts on the map as I move about the bed and creates a colored “map of pressure”. Blue zones indicate areas of low pressure, and red areas of high.
The Purple Hybrids provide pressure relief.
Back Pain Based purely on these pressure maps, the original Purple Hybrid was found to be the best mattress for those with back problems. Blue across the board, but not around the lower back like the Premier 3 or 4 maps. This is an indication that the original Hybrid is evenly supporting my weight, which is important for avoiding back pain.
Shoulder Pain Based upon these results, all three beds are great choices for those suffering from shoulder pain. To alleviate pressure, they should do a great job of cushioning the shoulder region.
Hip Pain The Premier 4 is the clear winner for folks with hip pain. The pressure map of the Premier 4 is almost entirely blue, meaning that sensitive hip joints can be cradled throughout. Purple Mattress Promotion
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performances for Couples
Couples often prefer beds that isolate motion transfer, are responsive enough for sex, are cooling, and feature good edge support. Read on below to see how the Purple Hybrids stack up in those areas.
Motion transfer describes the movement from one side or the other of the bed. This is an important consideration for anyone who sleeps with a child or furry companion, but more so for couples.
To illustrate motion transfer I dropped a 10lb steel ball from heights 4-8, 8 and 12 inches. The disturbance it created was measured.
The Purple Hybrids motion transfer results.
Considering how bouncy these mattresses are, I’m not that surprised to see they don’t offer great motion isolation. This tells me that there will be movement on all three mattresses. It could also mean that they might not be the best choice for couples, particularly if one of them is frequently disturbed at night. Purple Mattress Promotion
Good motion isolation and enough bounce are two of the best qualities in a mattress for sex.
If you are light sleeper, the Purple Hybrids may be too bouncey for you to share.
If you don’t mind being disturbed at night, these guys could be great options for sex because of their mobility and lift.
All Purple Hybrids have a remarkable cooling effect.
Any of these beds is suitable for hot sleepers. I’d say they’re also some of the best cooling mattresses you can find.
This is great news for couples, who tend to overheat much more quickly than solo sleepers. Purple Mattress Promotion
Edge support can be described as the degree to which you are able to rest on one side of your mattress and still feel supported. Your mattress will feel bigger if you have great edge support. You can spread your weight over the entire surface of your mattress.
All three Purple mattress had good edge support. I could feel the Purple grid layer begin to compress under my weight but the foam and coils below were firm and supportive.
Personally, I found the Purple Premier 3 to have the best edge support. Purple Mattress Promotion
What are the Purple Hybrids Made of?
Let’s now get to the bottom of what these beds are made from! I’m sure you want to find out more about Purple Grid. This is the stretchy purple top layer that gives Purple mattresses their unique feel.
Below I’ll detail the grid as well as all of the mattress layers. Recall that all Purple Hybrids can be assembled the same way. The only difference is how many inches of the Purple Grid each bed uses.
All mattresses have a cover made of a stretchy, breathable polyester blend.
Comfort Layer The hyper-elastic comfort grid is located below the cover. This grid is buoyant, supportive, yet incredibly cooling. Although it is difficult to describe the feel of this polymer material, it can be compared to a waterbed in that it supports your body and moves with you. The original purple Hybrid has 2 inches of Grid, the Hybrid Premier 3 has 3 inches, and the Hybrid Premier 4 has 4 inches. The more grid you have, the more comfortable the mattress is.
The Purple Grid.
Next, you will find a layer with poly foam. This layer of transition foam helps to ease the sleeper through the soft top grid into the more robust pocketed coil system.
Support Layer This section is found in both Hybrid Premier as well as Hybrid Premier. These springs provide a lift to the mattress and are extremely buoyant. You will feel more “on top” of these beds because the pocketsed coils and polymer grid provide a lot buoyancy.

Unboxing and Off Gassing Purple Hybrids
Purple Hybrids all come in a box, but are actually packaged in bags! Purple delivers complimentary white gloves to Hybrid Premier beds because they are very heavy. Although the original Purple Hybrid is easier to lift, I recommend that you have a friend to help with unbagging it. The best thing about these mattresses is their lack of strong off-gassing smells compared to other bed in a box models. Any scent should dissipate within a few hours.
My Final Thoughts about Purple Hybrid Mattresses Well folks, we’ve arrived at the end of the review. After reviewing every detail, it’s time now to make the decision about which mattress is best for you. Although I cannot make that choice for you, I can share some final thoughts to help.
Purple Hybrid is one of my favorite mattresses
The Purple Hybrids are so cool! They don’t trap much body heat at all, so I think most hot sleepers out there should be very happy on these beds! I love the responsiveness of Purple Hybrids. These beds can be used by both single and double sleepers.
Finally, I really like the feel of the Purple Grid. It helps you achieve a healthy spine alignment while still feeling incredible in pressure relieving. The thicker models are the best, especially when they are heavier. If you are willing to experiment with a more unique feel, I recommend the Purple. Purple Mattress Promotion
My Purple Hybrid Mattress complaints
Purple mattresses may not offer the best motion isolation. Although this isn’t a major issue, it can make your night more difficult.
A few customers complained that the Purple mattress was sagging and creating indentations. I think the Purple Hybrids will be a bit more durable thanks to their innerspring coil layers, but heavier folks especially might want to opt for a different mattress if this is a concern. If you decide to purchase any Purple bed, ensure you place it on a solid platform, not a box spring, and rotate it 180 degrees every few months to increase its lifespan. Purple Mattress Promotion

Purple mattresses are all made in the USA.

Purple Hybrid vs.
Let’s take a deeper look at the Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses. Now let’s compare them to other models on the internet.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
The Leesa Hybrids combine foam layers with pocketed coils to give you a double punch of support and pressure relief, just like the Purple Hybrids.
It does however have a more traditional feel to it than any Purple beds. So, this could work for those who aren’t keen on Purple’s unique feel.
I recommend the Leesa Hybrid to back sleepers and couples.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
Casper has zoned support. It’s more firm at the hips than the Purples. The shoulders are softer to provide optimal lumbar support.
Purples are more bouncier than Casper Hybrids, which combination sleepers may appreciate.
The Purple 3 and Purple 4 have a little more pressure relief than the Casper Hybrid. Purple Mattress Promotion
Purple Hybrids Vs. Original Purple
Support layers for the Original Purple mattress are made from high-density foam and not pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is supportive, bouncy, and firm. Combination sleepers may particularly enjoy this feeling.
The Original Purple mattress is similar to the Purple Hybrids and can be very cooling.
The Original Purple is much cheaper than either Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier.
